Nominated for 14 Oscars, beaten only by Meryl Streep (an actress she didn't respect), she won 4, this being more than anyone else. She died at 96 on June 29, 2003.
I didn't choose Adam's Rib (1949), because their mean spirited interaction disturbed me. Rooster Cogburn (1975) was pretty good, but also a little awkward.

Bringing Up Baby (1938)
A hysterically, ridiculous movie. If you haven't seen it, accept that you're going to see a completely nonsensical movie and enjoy.
The Philadelphia Story (1940)
After a string of unsuccessful movies, Hepburn starred in the Broadway show of the same name and then her boyfriend, Howard Hughes, bought the movie rights for her. She was nominated for an Oscar. Clark Gable and Spencer Tracey were the first choices for the roles given to Cary Grant and James Stewart, I can't imagine what the movie would be like without them. Was remade as the inferior High Society with Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra.

Woman of the Year (1942)
Hepburn's extremely strong, independent, and carefree female character is the reason to see this one. A great movie up until the ending, which is an odd and confusing moment. It is extremely interesting because of the use of no cuts but I wonder if she seemed to be out of character, I'm not sure. It does make for good discussion.
The African Queen (1951)
Directed by John Huston and co-staring Humphrey Bogart, this is a must see. Their personalities are rather bland until the middle of the movie, when they begin to grow.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967)
A very powerful movie staring Sidney Poitier and another with Spencer Tracy, his last. He died 17 days after filming. It seemed at the time, someone as respected like Tracy and Hepburn accepting an inter-racial relationship meant something bigger than just a movie. Weezy Jefferson's (Isabel Sanford) first movie role.
