Sean Connery : Connery can do no wrong in my eyes... unless you're talking about Zardoz (1974), or saying it's ok on occasion to hit a woman if they won't shut up. Other than that, he's perfect. He brought a toughness and class to James Bond, but wasn't the truest to the books.
George Lazenby : Considered the least favorite of the Bonds by fans, but admired in certain circles. Born in Australia, refuting the idea that only Brits can play Bond.

David Niven : Seriously, he was Bond. In the comedic version of Casino Royale (1967), with Peter Sellers, he added his own charm to the role. He was actually Ian Flemming's choice for Bond.
Roger Moore : Moore starred in The Saint TV series (1962), his transition into the Bond franchise was obvious. He issued in a campier, cheesier Bond, but at the same time this wasn't a bad thing. It made the movies funnier than the others, and more accessible for a wider audience. Moore was also the ultimate ladies man, and brought a humorous, sexual side.

Timothy Dalton : With Dalton entering the helm, the series became darker and more realistic. Unfortunately the audience seemed to dislike this version, most likely expecting him to be more like Moore, and he only lasted for 2 movies.
Pierce Brosnan : Brosnan was the clear choice for the next Bond. He, like Moore, had stared in a TV show detective series, Remmington Steele (1982). When Steele went into it's unexpected 5th season, Brosnan's promised role in the next Bond was given to Dalton. Brosnan filled the role with class and confidence.

Daniel Craig : Craig seems to be the perfect fit for the Bond role. The main complaint of him, is that he doesn't look the part. Perhaps because of the blond hair. Not exactly a big problem in my mind, his personality and attitude work really well. The series has taken a more serious and darker tone, closer to the level of the books.
Future Bonds : I think Craig has the role all to himself for as long as he likes, but the possibilities for alternate Bonds is interesting to think about.

Rupert Everett : The first gay Bond. I hear screams of outrage across the Bond universe. Not exactly the first choice but an interesting twist on the story. Even if he wasn't portrayed as gay, if it wasn't used as a gimmick, this would add a new edge to the series.
Halle Berry : A black woman as 007. Not as odd as you would think. In her roles in X-Men (2000) and Catwoman (2004), she showed she could do action movies as well, if not well.

Will Smith : While having charisma and action movie credentials, Smith has a persona from his previous roles that would reflect negatively on his role of Bond.
Leonardo DiCaprio : Before Blood Diamond (2006) I would have laughed at this one, I don't know now. He showed maturity and edge.

Colin Farrell : A smart ass, sarcastic Bond? Maybe.
Matt Damon : He's perfect in the roll of Jason Bourne. There's no reason for him to give up that role for the equivalent with a different name.
