Movie : Miller's Crossing (1990)

I don't know why this movie was made. It didn't seem to have any purpose or meaning, and I don't really feel one way or another about it.

The opening shot with the trees was nice and gave hope for strong visuals. Unfortunately it didn't get any better.

I don't know why, but it felt like it was a British TV movie. Not that British TV is bad, but it didn't feel like a feature film. The way it was acted and even how the shots were composed, would have looked good as a TV movie. It just didn't seem to go anywhere. There's a lot going on, but nothing of importance. The dialogue was passionless and boring.

Visually it seemed to be awfully bright for such a dark story. There were some clever camera tricks, but they felt like tricks. An homage to the gangster movies of the past, it struggled to achieve mediocrity. It's been described as the thinking man's gangster movie, I'll describe it as zzzzzz.

Reading the plot, you would think that it had the opportunity to be a good movie, but it lacks any of the charm of the Cohen's other pictures.

I really don't know what to say about this movie, other than, meh.
