The movie makes a lot more sense now. It took awhile to read this book, but it was worth it. Some fascinating ideas and concepts. I'll say he tells a basic story well, but not with much colour. I'd say the same about Rama, the other book by Clarke that I've read. I'm not sure about his other books, so if anyone could recommend his best or other sci-fi writers that I should read, let me know.Something I didn't know about the book; It was written at the same time as the movie, both taking from each other. I need to see the movie again
***Spoilers***
The ending with the star child makes reading the sequel tempting, but I'm not really sure how anyone could pull that off. What could you possibly write that wouldn't be a let down. I know a lot of people hated the resolution in Contact (1997), but honestly, what image of the aliens would have been enough. E.T.'s? Little green Martians? Nothing would be enough. Leave it up to the imagination. It may be better left unanswered.
