TV : Horton Hears a Who! (1970) (TV)

A disappointing version of Dr. Seuss's book. Directed by Chuck Jones, the genius behind How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966) (TV) , another Seuss Book, and many of the best Warner Bros cartoons. This is my favorite Seuss book, and I was surprised to see them deviate from the story. After watching the 3D version, Horton Hears a Who! (2008), and being disappointed with their straying from the storyline, I had high hopes that Jones would follow what is a perfect tale of acceptance and heroism. I'm not sure of the reason to change character names and dialogue, but it added nothing.

I was excited to see the 2008 version, from the moment I saw the first stills, it looked perfect, great designs and rendering, but they felt the need to add unnecessary plot diversions, I suppose to add humor and length to the show. Possibly this is the same for Jones's version.

Unlike the 3D version I didn't like the character design and animation. With the Grinch, he showed that he could make a complete and classic Seuss show, but he missed on this one. In addition, the music chosen was very irritating and distracting. And while I usually like the voice of Hans Conried, he was out of place in this show.

One other thing bothered me about this one, while the book has a strong moral tone to it, you don't feel confronted by it. The cartoon on the other hand seems to be trying to be make a political statement and hits you over the head with it.
